I wouldn’t buy gasoline from BP when I first started driving.
With multinational British Petroleum’s extensive operations in apartheid South Africa, it seemed like a small but actionable thing an individual could do to try to make a difference. Even though things changed in 1993 or 1994 for South Africa, my buying habits never really did. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve made a purchase at a BP since then.
I don’t support the approach the world’s richest man is taking to rightsize our national government. Maybe it’s time I look at who is advertising on his broadcasting platform. At the moment, Temu, Robinhood, Solar Heavy, The NFL, DraftKings, Shein, Restaurant Brands International, Amazon, Dell, and Red Deer Games are major advertisers. Apple, IBM, Disney, Comcast, Warner Bros., Discovery, and Lionsgate Entertainment have all recently returned to advertising on Twitter as well.

Perhaps it’s time for me to boycott these companies. Maybe I should email these CEOs explaining that until they stop supporting him, I won’t support them. I’m just one person. It may not matter. Although millions of voices suddenly crying out might.
I know this idea won’t be easy for me, but I’ve taken some small steps already. Amazon Prime, canceled. Apple TV+, not subscribing anymore. Temu is not getting money from me. Not ordering from Amazon will be the toughest for sure.
Perhaps an even more effective route would be to return to our roots. Buy local and use cash. Wait a minute… that’s there sounds like revolution talk.
